Instructions:

  1. The first 15 mintutes are alloted for candidates for reading the question-paper.
  2. This paper is divided into four sections A, B, C and D.
  3. All questions are compulsory.
  4. Do not exceed the preseribed word limit while answering the questions.

Section ‘A’: Reading

  1. Read the Passage given below and then answer the questions that follow:

The life of Shivaji was full of action and achievement. He built on large and brave army and laid the foundations of an organised state. Just by force of his achievement and personality, he shaped the Marathas into a nation. Many of his qualities were rare in that age. He performed not only the old Hindu religious rites, but also practised a broad-minded toleration. A Musalman holy man was as respectable to him as a Brahmin. He would cause no harm to any holy building of Islam. He could punish severely, but he was not by nature either cruel or blood thirsty. Towards women he displayed a gentle treatment.

The spiritual lessons which he had learned from his mother were strengthened by his famous Guru Ramdas.

A part from his peculiar genius, he was a notable example of what the old Hindu training could produce.

Make notes on the given passage and then make summary of the passage with the help of notes.

An exchibition-cum-sale for the items made by the students in their work-experience was organized by our school. The money collected amounted to 50,000/. Next day a function was held in the school auditorium. Many young artists staged dances, dramas, mono-acting etc. The function was held to old ‘Helpline India’ An organization for supporting orphans. The spectators bought tickets to see the function. Parents of the students also attended the function. It was appreciated and praised by one and all. Total money of the sale of tickets and money collected from exhibition-cum-sale was presented to the Director of Helpline India.

भारतवर्ष में बहुत से आदमी शारीरिक परिश्रम करने में अपना अपमान समझते हैं। परिश्रम के काम से तुरन्त मुख मोड़ लेते हैं। अतः अन्न तथा वस्त्र का प्रश्न बड़ा जटिल हो गया है। ऐसे लोग जाति और उत्तम वंश के झूठे अभिमान में पड़कर धीरे-धीरे अत्यन्त दीन दशा को प्राप्त होते जा रहे हैं। बहुत से ऐसे लोग दूसरे के सहारे जीवन व्यतीत करते हैं, परन्तु परिश्रम से जीविका नहीं चलाना चाहते हैं। शारीरिक परिश्रम नहीं करने से स्वास्थ्य बिगड़ जाता है, जीवन भार स्वरूप हो जाता है तब उनकी आँख खुलती हैं और अफसोस करते हैं।
