  1. Read the passage given below and then answer the questions that follow:

Many people complain that they have broken down through over work. In the majority of such cases, the break-down is more frequently the result of foolishly wasted energy. If you would secure health, you must learn to work without friction. To become anxious or excited, or to worry over needless details, is to invite a break-down work, whether of brain or body, is beneficial and health-giving and the man who can work with a steady and calm persistency, freed from all anxiety and worry and clean persistency, Freed from all anxiety and with his mind utterly oblivious to all but the work he has in hand, will not only accomplish for more than the man who is always hurried and anxious, but he will retain his health, a boon which the other quickly forfeits.

Once upon a time there lived a king who had a jester in the court. The King was very fond of him as he was an amusing fellow. So the king allowed him a great deal of liberty. He did not mind much of his impertinent sayings. So the jester became a perfect nuisance. It became his habit not to share anybody. The court officials became tired of him but could not do anything because of the king’s favour. None of them dared complain against him. At last, however, the jester went too far. He offended the king who being angry condemned him to death. The jester fell on his knees and pleaded for life. But there was no effect. When he expressed much repentance, the king granted him on concession. He said, “you shall die but you may choose the mode of your dying.”

The clever jester at once full of joy. He took the advantage of the King’s mercy and said, “Your Majesty, I choose to die of old age,” The King accepted his request, though he know that the canning fellow had misused the concession. Thus, the jester saved his life.

वृक्ष और जंगल हमारे देश की बहुमूल्य निधि है। वृक्ष हमें केवल ईंधन और फल ही नहीं देते, बल्कि वे हमें इमारती लकड़ी. भी देते हैं। पापुलर वृक्षों की लकड़ी से माचिस बनाई जाती है। यूकोलिप्टस की लकड़ी से कागज तैयार किया जाता है। वृक्ष वायु प्रदूषण को रोकते हैं। वे मिट्टी के कटाव को भी कम करते हैं। जहाँ तक सम्भव हो हर समय-समय पर अधिक से अधिक नये पेड़ लगाने चाहिए।
